As part of the ICA’s Outreach plans, Kim Hanna (ICA President) and Bill Kingdon (ICA Managing Director) visited Vietnam earlier this month to connect with the local cotton community. In co-operation with VCOSA, the ICA also delivered a 3-day Trade & Quality Matters training programme in Thai Binh concurrently.
As part of the ICA’s visit, Kim Hanna (ICA President) and Bill Kingdon (ICA Managing Director) participated in a networking event from 1-4 April across four different cities in Vietnam – Ho Chi Minh, Hue, Hanoi and Thai Binh. Organised by VCOSA in co-operation with the ICA, the event welcomed nearly 100 delegates from 46 companies from the Vietnamese spinning industry, providing a unique opportunity for the ICA to engage face-to-face with this market and understand the issues Vietnamese spinners and textile mills are facing. During the event, Bill and Kim explained the role of the ICA and the rights and protections available to those who buy and sell cotton under international cotton trading rules.
In co-operation with VCOSA, the ICA also delivered a 3-day training course to 20 delegates on ‘Trade & Quality Matters’ from 4-6 April 2024 in Thai Binh, Vietnam. Delivered by Robert Jiang (ICA Business Operations & Development Manager) and Jamie Welsh (DJW Cotton Consulting Limited) the training encompassed both practical and theoretical content, with participants having the opportunity to delve into the classification and quality assessment of cotton, commercial issues, dispute resolution, and arbitration. At the end, there was an exam and each attendee received a certificate upon completion of the training.
