In cooperation with the Cotton Association of India (CAI), the ICA delivered a training workshop to 55 participants on ‘Quality & Trade Matters, How to Reduce Disputes, Agents’ Functions and Others’, in Mumbai, on 6-7 March 2024.
Delivered by Robert Jiang (ICA Business Operations & Development Manager), Jamie Welsh (DJW Cotton Consulting Limited) and Mohit Shah (Gill and Company), the workshop consisted of key modules relating to the cotton trade, interactive discussions and a workshop exam. It was aimed at anyone who is involved in the cotton trade and industry, including spinners, growers, importers, exporters, agents, controllers etc.
ICA Safe Trading Officer, Casandra German was also present on the trip, liaising with local firms to establish safe trading networks.
Speaking after the trip, Robert Jiang said; “This Outreach Workshop Mumbai, held by ICA in cooperation with CAI, was designed to provide an insight for all the participants into a range of modules covering key aspects of the cotton trade. The atmosphere in each session was very interactive, with many question and answer sessions, discussions, and brainstorming. This together with the feedback clearly demonstrates that this type of workshop serves the purpose of understanding the ICA Bylaws and Rules, encouraging good trading practices, and dispelling any misconceptions and misunderstandings. I would like to convey my sincere thanks to the Cotton Association of India for their instrumental, professional support to the organisation of this workshop.”
CAI President, Atul Ganatra provided the following statement: “I wish to place on record our heartiest congratulations to The International Cotton Association and our sincere appreciation for an outstanding Outreach and Training Programme on Cotton. The fact that more than fifty delegates across the value chain from India and Bangladesh enrolled for this programme and positive feedback was received from the trainees clearly demonstrates the effectiveness and usefulness of this Outreach and Training Programme.”
Pankaj Mepani of the Organising Committee and CAI Board Member added: “The delegates came from a good mix of business backgrounds across the cotton industry, comprising mill sector, merchants, ginners, exporters, importers, CAI members and non-members, including six female participants which we were glad to see. Feedback received was an overwhelmingly demand to have such Learning Courses at least once a Year. To sum up, the Training Course had an outstanding applause from the delegates.”
