Trade & Quality Matters in Pakistan

In association with and organised by the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA), Robert Jiang (ICA Business Operations and Development Manager) and Jamie Welsh (DJW Cotton Consulting Limited and ICA Director) travelled to Karachi, Multan and Lahore to deliver a series of 2-day ‘Trade & Quality Matters’ training courses. They were accompanied by ICA President, Mohomed Bashir and ICA Managing Director, Bill Kingdon who met with the local cotton community, along with ICA’s Safe Trading Officer, Casandra German.

Over 170 delegates attended the training courses which covered a wide variety of modules including; The Role of the ICA, Contract Making, Arbitration Procedure and much more.

Speaking after the training, Rober Jiang said: “It was wonderful to see so many from the Pakistan cotton community sign-up to this training and enthusiastically take part in active exchange of thoughts, ideas, and aspirations. It is an enthusing but challenging task to engage in these workshops not only because of the wide ranged topics to cover, but also the high level of professionalism, expertise and knowledges of all the delegates. The outcome of the workshops and visits includes new ICA membership, more participation in ICA committees and continuing trainings, and more involvement in ICA activities. Delegates are now further aware of safe trading.”

A KCA representative said; “Delegates were very enthusiastic about engaging in the workshops on the ICA Bylaws and Rules, good trading practices and safe trading in the global cotton trade. KCA are very pleased to support and cooperate with ICA to conduct such workshops and visits which were much appreciated by all sectors of the cotton trade and allied industries. Mr. Muhammad Ali, ICA’s Coordinator in Pakistan well managed and coordinated with all stakeholders viz a viz delegates, trade, industry, merchants and well-wishers in Pakistan. Industry participants further recommend holding these workshops on a regular basis in the future.

Bill Kingdon added: “Pakistan is a most important region for the ICA. The level of experience and understanding of the cotton trade here is high, and we are proud to have more members from Pakistan than any other country. Also, right now, leaders from Pakistan are leading both the ICA – in Mr Mohomed Bashir from Gul Ahmed; ICA President for 2024-2025 – and CICCA whose chair is Mr Atif Dada, Dada and Sons, and KCA. We are delighted to be able to spend some time in the country.”
