International Cotton Trade Training Workshop in Qingdao

In cooperation with the China (Shandong) Free Trade Qingdao Pilot Zone, the International Cotton Association  will hold an International Cotton Trade Training Workshop in Qingdao from 3-5 June in Qingdao Bonded Port Zone Beijing Road Hengtong Building. The purpose is to explain the Bylaws & Rules and key elements of the international cotton trade, enable participants to familiarise with the arbitration procedure and avoid potential pitfalls.

The training will be delivered by Dr. Robert Jiang (ICA Business Operation & Development Manager) and Mr. Kevin Xue (CA Technical Arbitrator and ICA Ambassador).

Training modues and schedule:

Day 1: Monday, 3 June 2024
1. Opening address and What are the roles of the ICA, by ICA Vice President Mr Pierre Chehab, ICA Managing Director Mr Bill Kingdon
2. How to make a clear, concise and complete contract
3. How to ensure a smooth contract performance
4. Letter of credit and logistics
5. What are the Agents/Brokers’ functions?

Day 2: Tuesday, 4 June 2024
1. How to resolve claims, disputes through amicable settlement, mediation and arbitration
2. What are manual classing’s principle and procedures?
3. Understand HVI testing, its parameters and calculation
4. How to calculate allowances using quality standards and value differences
5. What are the procedures, timeframes, fees of arbitration and appeal?

Day 3: Wednesday, 5 June 2024
1. How to ensure safe trading – list of unfulfilled awards and protection
2. Importance of ICA membership – rights, engagement, networking, protection, benefits,
3. Textile processes, spinnability, traceability and beyond
4. Q&A Session
5. Review & Workshop Exam

The training will conclude with an exam, with a certificate issued to those who successfully pass.
