ICA honours Nick Hungate and Antonio Esteve with Outstanding Service Award 2026

We are pleased to announce Nick Hungate and Antonio Esteve as the recipients of the ICA Outstanding Service Award 2026, nominated by ICA members earlier this year. The award recognises their longstanding commitment and exceptional contribution to the Association and the wider international cotton industry.

The award recognises current and past individual ICA members who have made a marked contribution to the Association over time – whether through leadership, committee and working group involvement, promoting the ICA’s work, or acting as ambassadors for the Association.

Both Nick and Antonio have made a significant and lasting contribution to the ICA, each in their own way, and have played an important role in supporting the Association’s mission to promote safe, fair and sustainable trading practices across the global cotton industry.

Nick Hungate – a lifetime of service to the ICA

Nick Hungate has been a committed supporter of the ICA since entering the cotton industry in the late 1980s. Over the course of his career, he has served the Association in numerous capacities, including as ICA Treasurer, a Board member and Chair of several ICA committees.

His contribution has often taken place away from the spotlight, with Nick consistently giving his time, experience and expertise to support the Association and its members. He has also been a long-standing contributor to ICA education and training initiatives, including the Complete Cotton course, where he has regularly shared his knowledge with participants.

Nick’s career has spanned a wide range of sectors within the cotton and financial markets, including multinational companies, brokerages, banks and swap dealers, consultancy and start-ups. Throughout these different roles, his commitment to the ICA and to the principles underpinning a well-functioning international cotton trade has remained constant.

His nomination highlighted his willingness to support the Association regardless of his professional role, as well as the respect he has earned across the ICA and wider cotton community.

Antonio Esteve – leadership, integrity and contract sanctity

Antonio Esteve has dedicated more than three decades to the international cotton trade and has made a lasting contribution to both the ICA and the wider cotton community.

As ICA President from 2011–2012, Antonio led the Association during a particularly challenging period for the cotton market. Exceptional price volatility resulted in a significant increase in contract disputes, defaults and arbitrations. During this period, Antonio was a strong advocate for contract sanctity, fair dispute resolution and the enforcement of arbitration awards, helping to reinforce confidence and trust in international cotton trading.

His contribution to the industry extends well beyond his time as ICA President. Antonio has been a founding member of ANEA in Brazil and has played an important role in the development of Brazil’s cotton sector and its growing position in the international export market. Through his leadership within the ECOM Group and his longstanding involvement in the cotton trade, he has helped strengthen relationships across producing, trading and consuming markets.

Nominators also highlighted Antonio’s role in supporting the ICA’s development as a truly international association, his contribution to the concept of the World Cotton Contract, and his commitment to sustainable cotton initiatives. His market knowledge, integrity and willingness to share his experience have made him a respected voice at industry events around the world..

Recognising outstanding service

The ICA Outstanding Service Award was established by the ICA Board to recognise individuals whose contribution to the Association deserves particular recognition. The award has since been revised to provide greater value and prestige to its recipients.

Nick Hungate and Antonio Esteve were formally presented with their awards at the ICA Trade Event Gala Dinner in Istanbul, where the ICA celebrated their achievements alongside members and colleagues from across the global cotton community.

As part of the award, both recipients will receive complimentary tickets to three ICA Trade Events of their choice over the next three years, including invitations to the Welcome Party and President’s Farewell Reception associated with those events.

The ICA congratulates Nick and Antonio and thanks them for their exceptional service, commitment and enduring contribution to the Association and the global cotton industry.
