The International Cotton Association (ICA) has delivered its new ‘agent training’ to 42 local agents in Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.

The day-long, interactive courses took place throughout August and were delivered by Kai Hughes (ICA Managing Director) and Derek Tanner (DAT Arbitration & Consultancy). Antonio Esteve (ICA President) was also present to open the courses.
Launched in Bangladesh earlier this year and delivered in Brazil last July, the training focusses on the responsibilities of agents under a cotton contract. It is designed to promote good trading practice and covers the behaviour of the cotton market and the application of ICA Bylaws and Rules.
“In delivering these training courses, we are aiming to encourage agents to become part of the ICA community,” said Kai Hughes. “By enabling agents to become ICA members with our new agent membership category, we believe this will contribute greatly towards creating a safer trading environment. Agents are a central part of the cotton supply chain so having a good knowledge of the ICA Bylaws and Rules will put them in a better position to advise their clients of any important timelines and, in the event of a dispute, their rights and responsibilities.”
