Turkey’s Good Cotton Practices Association (IPUD) have become ICA members.
IPUD joins Supima, the Bangladesh Cotton Association, the Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers, the Spinners & Weavers Association of Korea and the Australian Cotton Shippers Association, who have all signed up to ICA membership and safe trading.
As part of our strategy to promote safe trading, we introduced an ‘Affiliated Association’ membership category in 2011, specifically aimed at like-minded cotton associations to help reinforce and support contract sanctity across all areas of the cotton supply chain.
Leon Picon, IPUD Chairman says: “IPUD shares ICA’s value of promoting equitable and fair trading practices. Sustainably grown cotton should flow through trading channels that value and promote the integrity of the sector. ICA’s unrivalled leadership in the creation of a safe trading environment throughout the entire supply chain makes membership a natural fit for IPUD.”
Founded in September 2013, Good Cotton Practices Association (IPUD) pursues the goal of making cotton production in Turkey better for those who grow cotton, for the environment where cotton grows and for the future of the sector. The establishment of IPUD has reinvigorated existing efforts to make cotton production in Turkey sustainable in environmental, economic and social terms by locally producing licensed ‘Better Cotton’.

The recent addition of Turkey’s IPUD is another fantastic opportunity for the ICA to continue to strengthen its membership base, as Turkey produces and imports a lot of cotton, most of which trades under ICA Rules. We know that IPUD supports our values and by joining us it will expel any of its members that appear on the ICA List of Unfulfilled Awards.”
There is no joining fee or annual subscription to become an ICA Affiliated Association and we also pass on a 50 per cent discount on our membership fees to producers and mills that are registered with each new Affiliated Association.
