Building on the success of the training workshop held in Kahramanmaraş, Türkiye in May 2024, the ICA returned to the city on 23–24 September. The ICA delegation, comprising ICA President Pierre Chehab, Managing Director Bill Kingdon, and Business Operations & Development Manager Robert Jiang, lead a training session focused on trade and quality matters, alongside visits to local cotton organisations and companies. The initiative aimed to address misconceptions within the trade and promote good trading practices in accordance with the ICA Bylaws and Rules.
Organised in collaboration with the Kahramanmaraş Industry and Business Association (KASİAD), the workshop explored a broad range of key topics relevant to the global cotton trade, including contract making, performance, quality standards, arbitration, and safe trading. Delegate feedback was extremely positive.
Speaking after the training, ICA Director, Ismail Nohutlu said; “I’m very pleased to have been part of the collaboration between ICA and KASİAD for the second ICA Workshop 2025 held in Kahramanmaraş, as a board member of both organisations. The strong interest and the positive feedback we received after the event clearly show how essential it is to continue this program. I would like to sincerely thank Pierre Chehab, Bill Kingdon, and Robert Jiang on behalf of myself, KASİAD, and all participants for their clear, engaging, and interactive contributions during the workshop, and for traveling such long distances to be with us.”
Robert Jiang added: “The workshop addressed key issues relevant to participants from the spinning, agent, trade, and other sectors. From start to finish, the session featured continuous Q&A and brainstorming, fostering active engagement throughout. Its primary aim was to safeguard the legitimate interests of all parties and stakeholders in the cotton trade, clarify any areas of uncertainty, and help prevent potential risks and pitfalls. Participants also received updates on the latest developments in ICA Bylaws & Rules, arbitration, membership, safe trading, sustainability, and best trading practices. The event saw excellent participation and strong sponsorship from various cotton organisations and firms. Special thanks go to Ismail Nohutlu, ICA Director, and the Maras Business and Trade Association for their outstanding efforts and support in organising this memorable event.”
