The cotton world gathered in Liverpool from 20-21 October to celebrate the International Cotton Association’s (ICA) 175th anniversary. The event took place in Liverpool’s Titanic Hotel and was closed with a spectacular gala dinner in St George’s Hall.
Officially opened by HRH Princess Anne, 570 delegates from the global cotton community came together to take part in the two-day event, which saw top industry speakers take to the stage.
With a keynote session from Joe Nicosia, Senior Head at Louis Dreyfus Company, there was also plenty of opportunity for delegates to network and do business, something attendees say brings them back every year.
In a farewell speech that saw Jean-Marc Derossis hand over the ICA presidency to Jürg Reinhart, Jean-Marc spoke of how privileged he felt to have served as President and paid tribute to the ICA’s Board and its ICA Management Team: “It has been a true privilege to serve the Association, especially in such an auspicious Anniversary year. It has been exciting, it has been a lot of work, I’ve received the delightful hospitality of many cotton people around the world and I’ve enjoyed working with a remarkable Board and such a dedicated ICA Management Team.”
The evening was closed with a theatrical production based on the ICA’s recently published book ‘The Story of Cotton’. Guests described it as “The best event ever” and “Simply stunning”.
Next year’s event will take place in Singapore. Full details will be posted on the ICA website soon.
